Irish Hiking Cabled cell phone / Camera Cover

Here it is. I made this yesterday and it was quick and painless. This is my version of the Irish Hiking Cell Phone / Camera Cover. I used Muench Touch Me Chenille which I would say I would not recommend to the new knitter. I loved the texture of the yarn but it worms something awful. One comment please. The 2 pictures were taken on 2 different cameras. The close up of the stitch is the more true to color of the photos'. I had to use my husbands camera to take the photo so you could see what I made it for. Since the yarn I used was bulky it turned out just right. Sorry that the photo is not that great but I wanted to get it done and posted before I leave this morning.

Pattern as followed:
US#8 DPN
Muench Touch Me (Chenille) - several yards not much

C6F - Slip 3 sts to cable needle and hold in front of work, knit 3,
knit 3 sts from cable needle
Casted on 32 over 3 needles
(Sts per Needle for the Pattern to work 11/10/11)
Join together and work in the round.
Row 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 & 7: K3, P2, K6, P2, K6, P2, K6, P2, K3.
Row 8: K3, P2, C6F, P2, K6, P2, C6F, P2, K3.
Repeat Rows 1-8 three more times. For a total of 4 sets of cables.
Repeat Rows 1-4 one time so that the cable is not right at the edge of the bind off.
Bind off doing the Live Needle Bind Off or Three Needle Bind Off

This is only my version of the Irish Hiking Cellphone Cover. I was unable to find the pattern on Knitty Coffeeshop so I came up with this after looking at the photo. Please except my apology if I have infrindged on anyones pattern. This is mearly my version of a cellphone cover / camera cover using the Irish Hiking Cable Pattern. I hope that you will enjoy this pattern.

Houston We Have A Problem

Ok.. so I finished a pair of cabled wrist warmers. I recently or should I say a month ago got the new magazine KnitScene and I found an awesome pattern for a pair of wristwarmers in it. I started to make a pair. I finished one about 3 weeks ago and just had not had a chance to get the second one going. I finially decdied to get my butt in gear and make the other one. So instead of following the directions to a T - I thought I was but did not compair it to the one I had already finished. Here is what I found out I had done AFTER I had already casted off.... Oops.. 1inch of a problem here.

So now here is the fix. When I made the first one I did not like the thumb opening but thought when I made a second pair I would do a buttonhole instead of what the pattern calls for. So here is the simple fix. Make another mismatch pair. Yeap... 2 pairs out of the same yarn. Now I just hope I have enough to make both of them. Oops... that's what I get for not following the directions.

Here is the other pair of wrist warmers that I am working on. This also has had some problems. I think it is the knitter and not the yarn nor the pattern. I only frogged this 5x until I was completely happy. First frogging I found I did it wrong on the thumb opening and it curled on the ends so started it again. This time I totally messed it up... Don't ask. 3rd time would be a charm right? Nope not for me. The third time I messed um on the cable I did a CF6 instead of a CB6 big oops... and then the other time was just because I did not like the cast on and the first joining in the round. I finially got it all worked out and I absolutely love the wrist warmer. This is my variation on the Cloud 9 Glove pattern which can be found here. I made minor changes to the pattern.

First I have small fingers so doing 2 full sets of cables at the top before the thumb opening would make mittens on me. So I only did one. Also I put a 2 row 1x1 rib at both the top and bottom of the wristwarmer. I only did a cast on of 10/15/10 instead of a 12/15/12 cast on. The only other change I did is when you join back after the thumb opening is made. I did the 2 decreases for the wrist and then after those decrease rows, to compansate for my fat arm I did increases in the same place where the decreasese were. I did the M1 increase since the K1FB made like a hole.

I totally love the pattern and can not wait to finish the pair. One more to go. They are totally worth making.

Knittin' Stuff Made by Lilee's Gramma

Woo Hoo am I spoiled or what. Look I also recieved these yesterday from Teresa. These are great. I love the color and the double ring one is very interesting. I am going to have to find a project to use for these. I just casted off my work on the size of needles these are for. So since I have empty needles... I just might have to cast on... thanks so much Teresa Posted by Picasa

Manos and Cascade from "The Stitch Cascade"

Well after a long day in the Hollywood/Beverly Hills area yesterday. I took the time to run into a Valley Village store "The Stitch Cafe" one of my favorite stores. I went in for one thing and ended up coming out with so much more. I was able to find the color red that I wanted in Cascade 220 and I also found my leave color in Cascade 220 Heather for my Vogue Knitting Felted Rose Bag. But I also found Manos Del Uruguay Flame and boy was that it. I love the color. I am going to mix Manos with Cascade to come up with a varigated Rose for my bag. I started to mix the two this morning and as you can see in the photo it look fantastic to me... woo hoo I am so excited. As for the one thing that I went into the store for... well I had to order it but that was ok. I can wait. Thanks Lisi for all your help and you RAWK! My mother loved your store also. Rib bit Rib bit Rib

Rib bit Rib bit Rib bit, I have crocked like a frog.  Well in the previous posting I showed you a cable wrist warmer that I was making.  Well I finished one of them and I decide after looking at it, I needed to redo it.  I like the pattern and the cable but the problems I found had to do with my little snosausage and my wrists are just a tad bit to thick for the warmers.  So as usually I am going to rework the warmers again but to fit me.

These are my variation on the Cloud 9 Glove

First I am going to do this instead of casting on 39 (12 /15/12).  I am going to cast on 35 or more like an even number because I want to do a rib at the beginning but if not more like this (10/15/10).  I am only going to work the pattern for the first full set of cable (c1 & c2).  Then I am going to do the side thumb opening which I really like.  This is the area that I am going to make up the 4 sts that I changed at the cast on by doing an increase 4x (1 Increase per row).  Also I am probably going to cut the length of the thumb opening because it was a tad bit to big for my short thumbs. Once I start back to knitting in the round I am going do the decrease 3x and then increase 4x.  So as to give it a slight tapered wrist.  My upper wrist is a tad bit to fat for the previous way so I will keep working with it.  I hope that it works like I am hoping since I really like the pattern.  The other thing is that I am going to work a rib at the beginning and at the end of it.  I did not like how things were rolling since there was not a true edge.  I will most likely do that by working a 2x2 rib.  K2, P2 for atleast 2 rows if not 3 or 4. So here is what I think it might be.

Cast On (working in the round)
Row 1 – Rib 2x2
Row 2 – Rib 2x2
Row 3 – Rib 2x2 Possibly depending on what it looks like.
Row 4 – K10, P3, K9, P3, K10
Row 5 – K10, P3, K9, P3, K10
Row 6 – Work C1 over K9 sts.
Row 7 – Repeat Row 4
Row 8 – Repeat Row 4
Row 9 – Repeat Row 4
Row 10 – Knit the first 7 sts (Starting to knit back and forth)
Work pattern back and forth for at least 6 rows no more then 12 rows joining back in the round. (Increase 1 st per row over these rows no more then 4 stitches increase every 4th row)

Continuing working in pattern decrease 1 stitch per row for 3 decreases every 4th  row to taper wrist area.  Then Increase like above so the arm portion is a tad bit wider then prior pattern.  At least 12/15/12 if not 13/15/13 which would be the best for the ending rows of the rib.

Pattern is working in this matter
C1
Repeat None Cable Row
Repeat None Cable Row
Repeat None Cable Row
C2
Repeat None Cable Row
Repeat None Cable Row
Repeat None Cable Row

Continue in this matter through out the warmer.

Stay tuned for more progress on this wrist warmer.

Another Weekend Another Question and more Projects to Finish

Well the weekend is upon us once again and I still have laundry looming over my head.  I got up early this morning thinking I would work on my felted Rose Bag by Vogue Knitting but the further I looked into the pattern the more confused I got.  So I am going to put that one on the back burner.  I know that creative holds no boundaries and I do not have to follow the pattern just as is since there are some different views.  I started to make the roses last night for the bag and then looked at the way to roll it up into a Rose.  Well this would be another problem.  The exact words are

“Bind off all Sts. Roll the ruffle edge and seam to cast on edge to form rose.”

So that is exactly what I did was – I made the rose and binded off like it said but when it came to seaming it.  I seamed it along the side.  Like one petal to another petal because it did not say seam the cast on edge or something like that.  So was I wrong?  I don’t know.  So when I get the project back out most likely later today.  I am going to make another rose but this time I am going to seam it along the cast on edge.  And then felt the 2 different roses and see which one I like.  I will hopefully post pictures later this weekend.

But since that project is on the back burner, I am going to work on my cables.  I only need to finish a little part of the one glove and it is finished.  And so on and so on…

Stay tuned for the latest knitting adventure with me!

What Type of Knitter Are You?

You appear to be a Knitting Goddess.
You are constantly giving and are unconcerned with reward, you simply want others to love knitting as much as you do. If someone wants to knit miles of novelty yarns, you are there for them. If someone wants to learn short row shaping, you can help. There are no taboos in knitting, only opportunities to grow. Everyone should have friend like you around if they want to learn to knit, and there's a good chance that your passion has rubbed off on a few others.

Cable Projects and Another New KAL

I thought I would show you all the projects that I casted on recently. I am totally addicted to cables and I found another KAL to join. Yeap another one but this is a fantastic KAL. It is FallCableKAL Check them out!

Project One:

KnitScenes Fall/Winter 2005
Project 17
Soft and Cable-y Fingerless Mitts
Yarn Flanell mit Merino by StahlscheWolle (Color 1461)
Needle size US9

These are very quick and easy. I feel like I have been doing the Michael Jackson though. I finished the one warmer about 1 1/2 weeks ago and I just have not got going on the other one. The only thing that I would probably do to change this pattern is instead of doing the thumb opening like they say to pick up and knit in the round. I would leave that off. It seems to be just a tad to big and I only did 3 rows. I might do a pickup and a bind off to see if that just makes a more finished edge on it. Also since I never follow the directions to the tee using my own idea of yarn I had to do a minor alteration. I love the fit of the glove but at the hand portion it seemed just a little to loose so I sewed in Elastic Thread in a matching grey color. You can not even see it and it took care of eactly what I needed. I love that Rainbow Elastic Thread by K1C2.

Project Two:

Family Circle Easy Knitting Holiday 2005
Project 17 Cabled Headband
Yarn Karabella Aurora Bulky
(Color 22)
Needle size US9 Straights

The frogs have been crocking away at this project. I was more then 1/2 way completed when I completely messed it up. I started to take it out and then it was just a mess. So I ribbited once... then twice... then three times. All my fault. I like the pattern and the instructions it just seemed that was not a day that I should have been working on cables. I totally messed it up but I am back on it again. It should not take that long it just seems that I can not get it together. LOL

Project Three:

Cloud 9 Gloves - WristWarmers
by Midnightsky Fibers Blog
Yarn Karabella Aurora Bulky
(Color 10)
Needle Size US7 DPD
Color 10

I discovered these yesterday and I was intreged by the thumb opening. I should be working on my other glove and finishing it but I just can not seem to get it together to work on it. Since I did not like the openning. I thought I would see how this ones goes. I like this one some much more but I can see that I am going to want to incorperate the 2 together. I like to have the ribbing on the rest of the glove where this one does not have ribbing. I like the appeal of this one. It is very quick and easy to make. This one I started last night while sitting in front of the TV. Something that I never do. I usually go and hide somewhere and knit. But last night I sat with my DH and my DSS and his girlfriend. I was able to get alot completed in a very short period of time. This is a must try pattern. Very easy to alter.

Last and Final Project(s):

I found this great simple book at Barnes and Noble the other day. Just Scarves by Lion Brand I was not going to buy it at the time becuase there were only 2 patterns that I really wanted out of it but I hesitated. I got home and then thought about the book more and had to run down there the next morning and get it. The book has several cable projects in it. The first is picture on the cover a very bulky scarf with one large cable. The other pattern is also a bulky weight shoulder wrap. I am going to make both of them but I have to wait for the yarn to arrive. I am going to make them with Plymouth Baby Alpaca Grande.

Stash Enhancement eXpedition

Stash Enhancement eXpedition – the new acronym for knitters.  Does this offend or not since the acronym is SEX?  I know that at times the term Stitch n’ Bitch offends others but I was curious how people feel about this one.  I personally don’t find a problem with this one just like I use these terms:

Yarn Ho – Do anything to get yarn
Stitch ‘n’ Bitch – Love to gather with others and knit together
SABLE – Stash Acquisition Beyond Life Expectancy
SEX – Stash Enhancement eXpedition – A shopping spree of gathering yarn

Just wondered what you all think.

Have you ever gone to a book store and look at a book and put it down and then later regret for not getting it? Well this was a book that I did it to yesterday. I know LionBrand ya what do they have to offer. Well this was a great book for 2 different cable patterns but I just did not want to get it. I got home last night and thought about it more and wish I would have picked it up. I would love to make the covered scarf in Baby Alpaca Grande or something soft like that. There is also a shoulder wrap in the book for the a wonderful cable. I wish I had grabbed it. But then I looked on line and found that I could buy it from Lionbrand with an added 5.95 shipping fee. Wow I could have bought it last night. I hope I hope I hope that it is there today when I go back to the book store before I go to our LYS. Cross your fingers. Posted by Picasa

Yeap during my erans today I found time to pick up a few odds and ends that I thought I might need to add to my stash. As If I really needed them. First I found an adorable pattern so in order to get the pattern at the LYS I had to buy the yarn for it. The grey tweed Cascade 220. Then as I was looking for the green for my Vogue Felted Rose bag I came across the 2 large skeins of yarn Eco by Cascade and it was a fantastic red that I thought I might use for something. Then the larg hank of Eco+ by Cascade I just had to add to my stash. Now the Fun fur had a purpose. I saw them over the weekend and did not buy them because I had a family member with me and I did not want to be harassed about adding to my enormous yarn stash... But I went back this morning and got them. I had a total of 40 skeins in my basket but then I thought I had better try it out first and then buy it all up. I bought the black in the metalic fun fur for the clutch felted purse that I found the pattern recently. A pattern that I have seen made up several times and it was so rich. Now the bright Bernat Disco... Well I just had to have it. Yeap... a purchase that does not have a reason as of yet. But I am sure that it will in some point in my knitting career. I had to sneak it all in past my family so I did not get harassed beyond harassment. Hence the rubbermaid boxes that I bought at the same time. They are going to hold all my needles... shhhhhhhhhs... Maybe my family will not catch on. but I don't think so...  Posted by Picasa

Beginning Vogue Felted Rose Bag

I have started it. Here it is. For all of you who do not know about this new KAL. Here it is: Vogue Felted Rose Bag I just began the project this afternoon. After a day of fun. First I could not wait to get going on this but life got in the way. I had to be taxi for my oldest but during those erans I got him to let me go into our LYS. I was looking for the Green for this project and I have it in mind what I want. I was wanting a Cascade Heather Green but could not find it. I could have ordered it at one of our LYS but that would have taken too long for me... Ms. Impatience. I had to wait for the rose yarn since I had purchased it on eBay earlier this last week. But that had not come in the mail today either. So I went a little stir crazy. I started a rose with some Blood Red Cascade 220 but did not like how it turned out. So Rip It Rip It... I was not going to let myself get started on this project with out having it all. As I visited this LYS I found a yarn that would work and I was too impatient to wait to find the green else where. Well I had a few more erans to do before I got going. I even cooked dinner tonight... Don't go having a heart attack or anything but I even baked an apple pie for desert. Yeap... I can cook I just don't want anyone to know that... Especially my family. Dinner was over and now I get to knit. I have recently moved my stash into on of our spare uninhabited rooms to sort it out. What I found out tonight was the lighting was perfect. The room temperature was a mild cool to handle those power surges I seem to be having lately. To just knit away. But the time I looked I had gotten to Row 6 of the Trellis. I thought that was a good enough time to stop. But I want to continue... but I am getting sleepy so to not make any mistakes I put it down. Then I realized I had yet to post a picture of the yarn or anything so here it is.

Pink & Fuschia Cascade 220
Kiwi Green - Lamb's Pride Worsted
Black - Plymouth Galway
Size US 19 (15mm) straight needles ((And yes mine are to short but I could not wait))
Pattern with all the corrections that others have found
Vogue Knitting Magazine Fall/Winter 2004/2005 Project #32

I think that this pattern looks more difficult then the actual project. So far I have found that it takes lots of thinking and the stitches are easy... you just have to count and refer to your pattern all the time.

Check out the Knit A Long for this Purse.

Plans for Mega Clean were derailed

Plans for Mega Cleaning and Organizing went by the wayside over the weekend!  Well I thought I was going to get a lot done over these few days but I got going on Friday and by Friday evening the plans had all changed.

I received a phone call from my Oldest son around 5pm.  He had been in another accident.  His first words were that the Explorer was gone.  So we went down to deal with that crisis.  The next day we spent most of the time in the Emergency Room to find out my son had messed up his back and also had a concussion.  The accident was not my sons fault but the fault of a man racing to run a red light.  So now we get to deal with that fun stuff.

But for the rest of the weekend I did find some time to knit alittle on my Acrylic Wrist Warmers and I also found a pattern that I have been looking for.  So this weekend was not totally lost.

Also I was on an adventure to our local Wally World aka Wal-mart where I discovered something that I stopped myself from getting but I just might go back and buy some today.  I found Fun Fur in Gold/Silver/Metallic Red/Metallic Black.  Oh dear god help me.  I want it all.  I think they will make a fantastic purse.  I must I must buy oh let see 3 of each color?... Yeap… I shall or should I just wait and buy it online and get the yarn called Happy.  What shall I do…. Darn I also need to go and buy the yarn to make that rose felted purse.  I am only missing the green but that is what is holding me up from starting it….  Decisions Decisions Decisions! I could just go to the other LYS but that is not something that I would like to do… but what should I do… I want to get going on it.

HELP!  Too many choices, Too many skeins of yarn… what will I do!  Stay tuned.

Acrylic Wrist Warmers Begin

You know what happens when you clean up your yarn stash? You find more stuff that you have forgotten about. I found this lonely old skein of YEAP that's right folks Acrylic yarn. I must admit I am on that knits with Acrylic and YES I am damn proud of my heritage and roots... I don't know the name of it or the color. I decided to make a pair of wristwarmers from Knitty.com. So far it is going going going. 1/2 way done with the first one. Stay tuned to see the progress. Posted by Picasa

Winter Cleaning a weekend Project!

Well, it is 12noon on Friday day one of my weekend project.  So far I have sorted out all my yarn.  I have almost finished that.  I cleaned the carpet this morning and I have got stuff cleaned up.  Have you ever realized how much work it takes to keep the clutter down?  I noticed recently that I have way to much clutter – hence the reason for the cleaning.  I started in the bathroom and clean up the magazine basket which is not mine but my DH.  Wow how much clean did it look just by doing that.  My plan this week end is to take it room by room and free it from the clutter.  Last night I cleaned up around my desk to the point that I even went through and thosed out all the dead pens that don’t write.  My next lame project is to shredded all the junk that I have piled up.  But before that I am going to go into our LYS – No not to buy more yarn ((As if that will not happen)) but to have my son take some of their electrical issues.  He is very talented and I hire him out way too much.

But back to the knitting front.  As I cleaned out my yarn I actually put in a pile all my UFO’s.  I took several out.  Threw away several of them and started a must finish.  So ontop of this weekends project I am going to sit down and finish some of those UFO’s.  I have no clue as to why they just got left by the way side.  But the plan is to finish as many of the projects as I can.  Atleast on baby picture and 3 purses.  I hope to have photo’s to show everyone.

On the Secret Pal front.  Well I have one more package to get off but since today is a holiday in the US it will have to wait until Monday.  I think I have it all together this time.  I have been sending theme packages.

As for the Stitch Marker Swap well I feel like I am accomplishing so much.  I got all mine in the mail this last weekend.  So no need to worry about that on.  Yippie!

As for the beading front that happens to be just one more of the cleaning adventure that I am on.  I hope to straighten up that area also.  Hopefully by the end of the weekend I can post pictures of all my cleaned up straighten up areas.  I hope.

A long with all that I am also going to give my car a much needed cleaning.  Hum… I wonder is there such thing as Winter Cleaning?  I think I have been bitten by the Cleaning bug and I sure hope that it does not stop for a few days.  So much to clean up.

Take care and I hope to post later what all I have accomplished.!

My Weekend Project

My Weekend Project – Yeap I have set out to have a project for this weekend between all my knitting.  First clean the carpet in the spare room and make sure all my stepsons stuff is out of the room before I clean the carpet.  Clean the bedding in the room also.  Once that feet is done then start on the major project.  Cleanup my yarn stash, yeap that’s right.  I need to take the entire weekend and clean it up.  But first I must make room for it… LOL,  I am going to be moving it into the spare closet.  As if that, is going to hold it all.  Right now I am at 19 draws, 4 large Rubbermaid boxes one box with out a lid for all my leftovers.  Plus, the bags of projects, which are sitting in each room.  My plan is to put it all in one room and in one place.  This could be rather interesting.  Plus I am planning a trip to the local craft store to buy some cheap yarn.  Yes I am a Yarn Harlot but after seeing Ms. Jane’s bag today I just must make one.  I must I must I must.  Plus I need to make the other glove to my fingerless mitts.  Plus I need to work on my poncho, plus, plus… Oh will I ever get to my organizing.  I feel like I am being trapped by yarn right now.  I can not even get to my computer comfortably right now because everything seams to be piling up on my desk.  So the plan is to start fresh and clean.  As if that is going to happen… LOL  As if I need to go and buy more yarn to add to my stash.  BTW – I did mention that I ordered more yarn on eBay this week.  But it is for a project.  I swear!  I sward… I have a project in mind for 4 of the 6 skeins…. Oh what is a person to do?  When they suffer from SABLE – Stash Acquisition Beyond Life Expectancy.  I am going to have to live until I am 300 years old to make it all.  Did I mention my other new obsession which is starting to take over my bedroom….BEADING…? Oh help!  I have bought more yarn and more beads will it ever stop???  I sure hope not.  Now if I can just stick to my new idea… DO NOT CAST ON before Binding something else off.  Ya that’s it… don’t do it… Like, I can control myself.  LOL  Can YOU?

Our Grandbaby

I had to share. This is our grand baby. She is 4 years old and we totally love her. She is a total ray of sunshine. I wish we got to see her more. My stepson is a fantastic father with her. I can not beleive just how big she has become. She has the cutest rusty voice. This was taken a few days ago and I just found it on my camera. It was taken when my stepson was very sick but that did not stop him from posing with his baby. I have to say she is a camera hog. Posted by Picasa

Lil' Red Bag - Finished

Not much time to blog but here was my latest project. From the book "Purseanalities" - Little Red Bag. It was quick and easy. I have to say this only took one day to make. But here is the funny fact. The little black beads almost cost more then one of the skeins of yarn. Anyone need Little black Pony Beads? I only needed 20 beads but ended up with about 500 of them since I could not wait to shop around looking for them. I had the bad completed up to the bead row but then I had to stop and wait for the beads... I found them at Michaels Craft Store but I did not want to get 500 beads... but I broke down and bough them. I have to say the bead row went very quick and then all I had to do is finish it. I made this for my sister. We are celebrating her birthday this weekend and I needed a gift for her. Even my DH loved the bag. He usually just says "Nice" or "Ya I saw it" but this time as it was drying in the kitchen he came in where I was and told me "I like your little christmas bag". WOW - he actually notices things. Shocked me. Posted by Picasa

Two words "Jury Duty"

Not much to knit or tell you about since I am on Jury Duty. Will post later.
