Sample of Moebius

Since I have had several people ask what a Moebius is this picture should give you a closer idea Here is what a moebius is. It is knitted in the round you could say. It is not grafted to make the twist but it is knitted continually in like a figure 8. It is very easy once you get the hang of it. Check out Cat Bordhi's book "A Treasury of Magical Knitting" & "A Second Treasury of Magical Knitting".

Moebius In Progress

Here is what I am working on currently and I am about 3/4 of the way done. This is a "Moebius Shawl" from the book "A Treasury of Magical Knitting" by Cat Bordhi. The pattern is on page 31 "Shifting Color Moebius". I was very intreged by the look of the Moebious technique. The cast on is very simple and easy and it goes really quick. I am using a Cotton Ribbon that I hand dyed at the "Stitch Cafe" I was very please at how the yarn is making us. I will show a better picture once I bind off using the i-cord bind off. It is on a size 13 US 52" circular needle. I hoping to have it finished with in the next few days. I will keep you posted. ~ Enjoy!

My Dog after a hard day!

My Dog! It appears that he had a long day yesterday. This is the way I found him this AM. He is sleeping on the spare rooms bed. As you can see he has taken the bed over. He is still sound asleep as I took tons of photos of him. He is a Labradoodle - 1/2 Labradore and 1/2 Standard Poodle - both very intellegent dogs but for some reason IPod did not get brains from either of his parents. Yeap.. I think this dog fits in our family just right.

As if we don't have enough projects going here is another one. Inspired by the movie "Monster-In-Law" Lion brand has come up with a pattern just for that. What are we going to do now... here it is http://www.lionbrand.com/patterns/cjif-monsterInLawPoncho.html

Here is what the booga bag looked like before I put it into the washing machine. I was not sure how the top edge was going to work out but after the first wash I had to straighten it out just a tad from rolling but after that it felted just great. The next one I make will probably be 2x the size. In stead of 34 cast ons I wll probably do like 50. Also after felting it and attaching the handles I will also make those different. I will make a specific eyelet row for the handles. I was not impressed with punching out the hole for the handles. It seemed to be a little thready if that makes sense. I hated to have to punch a hole in my hard work. I used Kureyon for the yarn and liked the color was not sure how the brown or the green would work but after felting wow. I was completely taken by how it worked out. This is a must try for anyone who wants to do felting.

Booga Bag Finished

My booga bag is finially finished. This was a very simple bag but I think it came out very rich. I used 2 1/4 skeins of Noro Kuyeroen - 10 1/2 US needle and it was simple. If you want to know more about the pattern please visit the Black Sheep for the pattern here Enjoy!

Denise Needles & A Treasury of Magical Knitting

Ok... I am doing better. I did not buy yarn yesterday but I got what I have been waiting for. I first got my set of Denise needles never have to look for that one needles I don't have in my collection. They are interchangeable and the points are great. Even better the exchange from where the cable to the needle is - is no snag steps. I was really impressed. I also got the 52 inch cable. So I could start the Moebius shawl from the book pictured "A Treasury of Magical Knitting" this is a great book to add to you collection. It is very easy to do and very easy to wlrk with. Just be very patient the cast on is very different. The book also has great bind off techniques. Specially the I-Cord bind off. I can not wait to get to that point.

Booga Bag Progress

Here is my progress on my "Booga Bag" it is turning out so great. I have about 5 more rows and then cast off. Then on to 5 or 6 feet of iCord. My favorite. I think I am going to do an icord bind off on this one. I like this bag. Very addictive.

PPIP and Stash Addiction

What have I done! Oh My Frigging gosh! I entered into a yarn maddnes. From left to right first the pink I had but I got the black to start on a new project that I saw at "Stitch Cafe" oh how beatiful this throw was and these are the colors that I just want to put -YES they are bright and bold but they scream out ME! Then the middle Red-White-Blue is for a felted buttonhole bag which will be my 3rd and it is for yes July 4th, 2005. I am going to make my mother and me both one. then there is that little pile of Noro Silk garden. I had to have it. The color was so awesome. Springy I want to make the mobieus with it so I am just waiting until Friday and wham I shall be casting on. Then there is this last pile which were all ready balled for me. The bottom 3 are noro also but it is so for a PPIP (Potential Project in Progress) most likely a booga bag. Then the 2 blue is a denim color that is alittle varigated and is also for a buttonhole bag... I think. and then the black is just one that I needed if I am going to make anything with the other one that I already have in my stash. Stay tooned to see how it goes.

Three Amigos

The Three Amigos - Here they are my wherey fishermen. This is my boys and my dad. They all went fishing last weekend and notice the white in the back ground. Yeap that would be snow. But it is a bonding moment for those 3 men. My kids are very close to my dad and this is the best picture I could ever imagine. My father is 77 and suffers from Parkenson and my boys are right there with him - this was a family outing that I can remember doing as a kid and my father has taught my kids the same skills and hobby that he enjoyed as a boy. My boys can get on my last nerve in fact I have their intials tattooed on my butt because they are the 2 biggest pains in the butts... LOL but I love them and this just shows me that they are truly great kids! I just had to share.

Sleeping Dogs

Let sleeping dogs lie. These are my pets, Milo the Jack Russel, Johnny the surfer and iPod the Labradoodle. So when I got home last night from knitting group I found my monsters asleep in my "Cave". This is my couch in my knitting/crocheting/computer room which is our garage that has been converted to my stash hide out.

Poncho For iPod the Labradoodle

Ok several weeks ago I dyed cotton ribbon and had not clue what to do with it. Over the weekend I found this great book called "Viva Pncho - Twenty Ponchos and Capelets to Knit" by Christina Stork & Leslie Barbazette. I was not found of the yarn colors that I had dyed until it was wound and after I started knitting with it. I was so excited when I decided to make this cute doggie poncho for my Labradoodle. The pictures below will explain more detail:

Here it is. My new project I was going to start. Notice in the first picture it is all neat and tidy and ready to move along - and notice that there are 2 needles. Well with in hours I am now down to 1 needle, can't frog it because the dog for which this was going to be fore decided to eat it. Hum... is this a sign that "The Pod Man" does not want a poncho?

After "The Pod Man" got a hold of his poncho... Notice the broken yarn on the book. He ate one needled and was eating the yarn when I found him.... Anyone want a Labradoodle??? Free to go home - does not mesh well with knitters, shoes, 2x4's (Yes he eats 2x4 lumber)... No he is not for sale or is up for adoption. I just have about 18 more months of puppy syndrome... LOL

Completed 2nd Buttonhole Bag from scraps

Here is the complete view of the same bag holding the skein of kid-n-ewe and the needles. I am very fond of this pattern. I hope to be able to make a few more with the yarn I got today. Shhhhhhhhh! I went on a shopping trip to Los Angles @ the "Stitch Cafe" What a cool shop. ~ Enjoy!

2nd Buttonhole after felting

Here is the finished version of the 2nd buttonhole purse. I liked this one better because of the unique part I did with the handle by changing color right at that point. I placed the needles and the one skein to show you the size of before and after. Enjoy!

2nd Buttonhole Bag before Felting

Here is another buttonhole bag. This one is done with the leftover scraps from the first one. The only thing different that I did this time is that I let the teal go all the way to the bind off for the buttonhole handle and then switched to the purple for the top cast on for the buttonhole. I used a total of 4 skeins of Kid-n-Ewe for both purses with just a few feet to spare. This pattern is taken from the Mason Dixon Knitting pattern with my alterations. If you would like more about it click here.

Booga Bag made with Noro - Start

As if I needed to start another project but thanks to the gals over at the felted bag KAL I just had to start another project... So Here it was my yarn for this other project but I could not wait to start another felted bag before I started the one I was going to make only becuase needles in this town are so hard to find. I am waiting on my set of circular needles to come in. So I was looking through the links in the Felted Bag KAL group and came across this very cute bag called Booga Bag by Black Sheep. It was so cute and here is the best part. I have the right size of needles and the right amount of yarn.... HUM.. why not start another project... Ya... why not? So I did... here it is. I just have the base and the first few rows done but I had to share with you what I did. Also so to not scare you I know I mentioned I took the yarn from another project I was planning. But now need to fear... UNDER Dog is here... I swooped over to the area in the LYS and just got what I thought was different Noro yarn to replace the other project yarn I used... Funny thing. I ended up buying the same identical color again for the project I have yet to start.... Hum. I guess you could say it is ment to be. I must make that bag with that yarn... but will I ever get the needles? Will I ever have the right needles, the yarn and the pattern all at once? STAY TUNED to find out... LOL ~ Enjoy

Prism Cool Stuff - Cantina ~ I want I want...

I want I want I want... this is what I want. This is the latest yarn in at our local yarn store and it is just a must have for me... Prism's Cool Stuff Cantina. Now all I have to do is figure out how to get it. For one hank it is almost 100.00 USA Dollars but it is so worth it. I just started a project with the same fiber but in the color of lipstick. I hope to have pictures soon to post. It is going to be what I will refer to as my 1 hank poncho...Cross your fingers for me. I hope to complete that project soon also along with the other project I started to day. The booga bag by black sheep. I will post next. ~ Enjoy

Here is my version of the buttonhole. This was my first one and I am hoping to bind off today on my second one. For more info on my bag or my verion of the pattern go here

Homemade Yarn Dyeing Project

Ok.. here it is. I am going to attempt to dye yarn on my own. It appears to be quite an investment. I bought plastic bins, plastic squeeze bottles, microwave safe saran wrap, 2 skeins of Lion Cotton, 2 skeins of Lion Fisherman Wool, several Dylon dyes and Kool aid. Now I have all the stuff ready to get going. We (Christy and I) are going to attempt dying the yarn real soon. I have put the yarn into hanks so that I can paint on the dye and I am ready for the rest of the process. Just need the vinegar, paper towels and the microwave. I hope to that this really works out. I want to invest in other types of dye and other fibers but this was what is readily available in our local craft stores. I hope to get into the Jacquard Acid Dye for Wool and Silk. ~ Keep your eyes open and see how this works out!

More Yarn for Felted Buttonhole Bags

Here it is... Like the yarn diet really worked right? So yesterday I went and picked up these awesome Cascade Pastaza. I have plans to make 2 count them 2 buttonhole bags with these 4 hanks. The first one is going to be a brown base with 2 stripe of pink near the bottom and then brown the rest of the way. The second one is going to be Black with grey stripes. I hope to get going on them soon. I also found the needles that I have been looking for, for quite sometime. It has been hard to find 11 or 13 (16inch) circular needles. Thanks to the Stitch Cafe they had them. Keep checking back for progress on my bags. ~ Janet

Felted Crochet by Jane Davis (Coming Soon)

So as to not have you all think I don't give grace to the crochet goddess in me, I thought I would share this new found book that I must add to my collection. Felted Crochet by Jane Davis is one the first feltting books for chrocheters I have seen. This is a must add to your library. Only problem is that it will not be published until September 2005. Barnes and Noble with the ISBN 0873498879 - so add this to your wishlist. I can not wait to get mine!

Cotton Dyeing at Stitch Cafe

Another Sunday filled with Dyeing. Today Christy and I went to the Stitch Cafe in Valley Village, CA to dye cotton. We met up with Christy's mom Sue and jumped right into the dyeing process It seems to be an new addiction for me. This was the crowd today for the morning dye class. I enjoyed dyeing the wool several weeks ago and was really excited to work with the cotton. So far I have to say the silk that I dyed 2 weeks ago was my favorite but today was interesting. I dyed two hanks of cotton ribbon like yarn. My intentions were to dye them both the same but at the time I started I just went another direction. I started with just the pinks and blues

This is my first attempt with the cotton and I think my best. I just used 2 different colors a Fucshia and a Teal. I really liked how they blended together to make the purple. I was surprised at the way the cotton took the dye compared to the way the wool and the silk dyed 2 weeks ago.

This is a screen shot of just a few of the different dyed cottons. The middle bottom bowl is my second attempt which I was not happy with entirely. It was a learning process. I was not a fan of the way the purple blended with the orange. As I should have known it would take on the more drab color. I have the idea of making either a purse or fingerless mittens with it. I really think I am going to use the enterlac technique with the bottom bowl. The two bowls to the right of mine is my friend Christys and I really like the way she did them both at the same time and they will work together. As if this was enough of dyeing today - Christy and I could not wait to get back in town to visit the local craft store to purchase dye, wool, cotton, buckets, bowls and everything else we need to do it ourself. Don't get me wrong I truly enjoy dyeing at the Stitch Cafe but it is a 120 mile one way trip just to be able to do it. Christy and I are going to dye our stuff we bought when we got home this weekend. I will keep you posted how it works out! Cross your fingers.

I would like to thank Lisi of Stitch Cafe for offering such a unique & rewarding experience. I really enjoy being able to learn this technique of dyeing and working with colors. If you ever are in the Hollywood area you need to go by and visit the Stitch Cafe. The staff and atmosphere is so worth while visiting. The store is set up to be warm and cozy feeling with freindly staff members . Lots of different books, fibers, notions and other items. No question to little or to big to ask. Very helpful customers and friends!

Felted Knits (A must have book)

A must have book. If you are interested in felting then this is the book for you. "Felted Knits" by Beverly Galeskas. It is by Interweave Press www.interweave.com and is still in print so look for it at www.amazon.com I discovered this book as I was knitting at a LYS and the staff member showed me a pattern out of it... wow exactly what I was looking for. And then I looked through the book and I was amazed at the amount of useful information about felting and samples and all the cute patterns. It is not a big book but it is loaded with useful information.

I am getting ready to cast on one of the small bags so I hope to have pics soon. It is suppost to go really quick... oh wait I can't ... I don't have the needles. I am at a point with this needle drout that I am going to carve my own. I have several needles I need for these project and I just can not find them either locally or with in a few hours. I know it would be just as easy to order them online but a lot of places have them on back order also. Come on people stop hoggin all the needles - we all want to have fun.

My First Attempt at Yarn Dyeing

If you have been reading my blog you would have read that 2 weeks ago I went to a store in the Los Angeles, California area by the name of "Stitch Cafe" for a day of dyeing wool/silk fibers. I posted pictures of what it looked like right after the dyeing process. But last night I actually got my yarn which is finsihed. I am so please with my first attempt at the process. I dyed both a 100% silk hank and a 100% wool. They both turned out so much better then what I could have imagined. Here they are:

I will be making an iPod Cozy with the wool and I am not sure what I am going to be doing for the silk.

So what do you think?

Monday Morning Car Issue [Off Topic]

Well to tell you a story about my car. It all started last week when I was planning a trip to a Los Angeles, California knitting store. I took my car in to have it service. You know the usual oil change and check the tires etc... I also had them take care of a minor issue with my Alarm. The car is only 6 months old. So I picked it up after they were finished. Brought it home and only drove it one other time after that. I went to knit with friends Friday and then straight home.... This is where the fun began. My JRM called me and told me someone was leeking oil in the drive way. Well I knew it was not me. I have a new car and not my parents either so hum...?? Don't know. I was on my way home when I noticed just how dirty my back window was even thought it had been raining. So I kept driving until all of a sudden I noticed my back window was not dirty it was smoke and it was coming from my car. Yeap... my car was having issues? Hum I wonder why? I just had it serviced and I have only driven 40 miles since then hum... oh well keep driving home then I thought hum could it catch fire... so I pulled up in my front yard and parked backwards, got out of the car and looked as did all the neighbors that were standing outside... Shoot nothing gets by them. Well come to find out I had lost all the oil in my engine because the dip that worked on my car did not tighten it up. Here is what is even better. JRM got home and said that he could tell which way I drove home. I guess the oil made a nice little trail so if I ever get lost I can find my way home and so can everyone else. All they have to do is follow the nice large little oil spill the entire way home...

Here is my baby leaving my house this am. Still no word as to what happen to the motor or what is going on but here is what my car looked like as it was leaving me...

Sad little car.

Here is what is even worse I can not go shopping for any more yarn or go and sit at the local yarn store and knit with my friends... HELP! HELP!

Trendsetter Diagonal Savvy Bag

I finished one of my UFO's this was one of the items I was knitting for the "Just For Myself - KAL". I was making the Trendsetter Yarns #2434 Diamond Shaped Bag made with Trendsterr Savvy Yarn. Here is an upclose view of my work.

The purse was very easy and very quick to do. Here is the finished project

This was one of the more unique patterns I did. You cast on 40 stitches and the work a decrease right in the center of the stitches first by doing a K1, PSSO before the center marker and then a K2tog right after the center marker. After you do that row you knit the next row completely. Then work the decrease row again. Until you have 26 ridged rows. But that is now what was strange. What was strange after you finish the first side and you bind off then you go back to the cast on row of that finished side and pick up 40 stitches and then work the decrease row and then a full knit row until again you have 26 ridged rows. So really all you have to do is sew up the sides. I made my handle by just double stranding the Savvy yarn and chaining it. I attached the handle on each high point of the top opening. I think it turned out pretty cool. First purse I did for myself. What do you think? ~ Janet

Yarn for Felted Buttonhole KAL 2005

Here it is... as you all know I started a yarn diet. And I am sure by now you can figure I did not make it 24 hours... LOL but this is for a purpose. I am in a Felted Buttonhole Bag KAL and this is the yarn that I got for the project. From what I am told it felts really well. We shall see about that since this will be my very very first felting project. I fell in love with the colors a teal and a purple the photo really does not do it justice. The yarn is made in Chile and is 100% wool/ 3.52 oz. 250 yds. per skein with a 18 stitches/24 rows = 4x4 they suggest a 5-7 size needle. If you would like more information regarding this yarn by Araucania Yarns visit them at www.araucaniayarns.com *KFI distributes their yarn in the USA. If you would like more information regarding the KAL visit us here at Felted Bag KAL ~ The pattern I will be using is the unpattern bag *Please note this KAL is not to be confused with the Knitting Chicks Felted Bag KAL which is an awesome KAL to also be in. Their KAL uses a pattern by Knitty.com you can check them out HERE The pattern that I will be using for the Felted Buttonhole KAL can be found here on The MasonDixonKnitting Blog I hope you enjoy the information. ~ Janet

My Latest eBay find - Hand Painted Mohair

Ok... so here are the facts. I have been a computer geek for years. Taught computers for years but I have never purchased anything from eBay until 2 weeks ago. Thanks to Nancy and Christy for telling me how to win. The one thing that they left out is that remember to make sure you have the money... LOL (Oh! Johnny!)

So this was the very first thing I had ever found on ebay and actually won the bid. I have not clue what I was or am going to make with it but it was just to pretty not to have in my stash. It is also the first kid mohair I have purchased so I just have to find something to go with it... 250 yards of kid mohair - maybe even a scarf. Don't know yet... still in the thinking stage of this project.

Not Feeling well... (Off Topic) Story of my day with my illness

Some of you might know, others don't know but I have a chronic illness which has never gone into remission for the last 2 1/2 years. Well, I have been able to cope with it for the past couple of months with out really any problems. But it appears that I am coming down with a cold so I am going to put my butt in bed for the next few days and kick this thing. Not sure where I got this cold from but it seems to be coming on strong. So as to not contaminate anyone, I am going to stick my behiny in bed for a few days.

My illness has made me become disabled and I fight with that all the time. I try not to let it kick my butt but there are times it does. This happens to be one of those times. I recently had to have an investigator out to my home (actually today) to investigate wheiter or not I was sick. I try my damdest to stay out of a wheel chair and just give up. I fight constantly with pain but I go on as I usually do. But I was insulted when my insurance company decided they needed to send an investigator out to my house. I was pissed and it was not the investigators fault he was just doing his job. I very very rarely let it get to me. There are days that it is bad and I think other thoughts but today everything got all brought up to the surface. I stressed the last month regarding this visit - but I put it on the back burner and kept myself busy so as to not think about it... one of the reasons I like knitting/crocheting I can just block it out of my mind. Many of my friends that I knit with know that there are days that I have to wear gloves so as to not bleed from my fingers onto my yarn or so that the yarn does not snag my skin (part of one of my 3 chronic illnesses - yeap 3 as if 1 was not enough) I very rarely let my illness get me down. But today I had to talk to some total stranger and tell him all the ins and outs of the desease.... that sucked! Let me just say THAT REALLY SUCKED! No sooner had he gotten to my home for the inspection, I started to bawl like a baby... Thank god my 77 year old father stopped by. It was hard on him in fact he called in for reinforcements when he saw how up set I was. He called my mom to come and help with the home inspection. I was scared, I was pissed, I was so very confused. Why do insurance companies put people through all this. Do they not read what my doctorsssss write??? The poor guy by the end of it wanted me to feel guilty that he had hurt his back while working out this morning... HELL I would just like to be able to go to a damn gym for a day... (open sores on your fingers, hands and feet are not a good thing to mix with dirty gym germs)... I just kept thinking of what some wise person told me a few weeks ago. That they have to do this because so many times are people fooling them and are not really sick. Thank you oh wise knitting women! I survived the visit and completely am worn out from it. Not because I had to do anything just the fact that I am mentally spent from all the worrying the days before and then to actually verbally discuss my illness. I am not hidding from it or acting as if its not there but I don't like to have to tell someone exactly what all I do and have to do just to be able to get going.... I wondered what he would think if I told him there are days that I don't get out of bed... or that it takes me until noon time to really be productive in my day... I guess it really hit me when he had to look at all my medicine bottles.... 14/15/16 too many to count... all those pills just to be able to be half of what I use to be. Funny I was going through my pill bag which happens to be a Jimmy Neutron Lunch Pail say "Oh you don't need that med to write down, Oh you don't need that one becuase I only take that when this happens..."

Ok... so I have vented and I needed to... I have no clue as to why I put this here on my blog but rather then emailing all my friends one at a time I thought I would just do it here and let you all know what happens in my life... As if you needed to know that much information.

I will NOT LET MY ILLNESS kick my butt. I am stronger then it - just there are days that it likes to remind me that knock knock... remember me... I am your chronic illness. I just tell it to shut up! LOL

The Frog has Landed ... (The Aibhlinn Project)

I did it... I can not beleive that I did it. I ripped it all out until the very end. I am so not wantting to start the bobbles... but I made a few more stitch markers so I am off to make it again... Will post later as to how it is going. Bobble away...

StashBusters

Stash Busters Guidelines:

1. The knit along will last for three months (April, May and June)
2. We will each knit one major project a month (you decide what you consider major, but something more then a scarf or a hat)
3. If you can, post on your site sidebar what you are going to knit for each month.
4. The yarn must come from your stash.

To Frog or Not To Frog

Ok... I need some advice before I get going to much further. I screwed up and I am not sure if I should rip it rip it rip it... or not. I am currently making an Aibhlinn from knitty.com

Here is the problem:
I must have been sleep knitting and messed up a row. I figure I could correct it on the next row but I see that I was really sawing some zzzzzzz's I had the count of 4 purls every now and then... so when I started to fix it I just figure I would do it on the next row... I am not that far that it would make a problem of frogging it completely. What do you all think?

Should I start Crocking like a Frog? Or just let it be? The only issue I have is that the bobble row took me almost 1 day to do.... HELP! Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
